About Us - Blayney Shire Local & Family History Group Inc.

The Blayney Shire Local & Family History Group was formed in 1992.

It promotes the collection and preservation of information, records, memories and material relating to the Blayney area, as well as researching the family stories of its citizens, past and present.

Group members value both local and family history as well as the wider events that have impacted on the district over time. Its works affirms the unique nature of all people's stories who have made their home in the district before and since European settlement.

The group's collection consists of archives and objects relating to people, organisations and places in the shire. It works collaboratively with the Regional Museums Network under the auspices of the Sustainable Collections Project of Blayney, Cabonne & Orange councils. A number of items held by the group have been photographed and added to the eHive.com website.

Below: A rare alignment post still standing in Blayney, known locally as a "hitching"post. Originally used by surveyors to align streets, it was later used as a convenient place to tie a horse.
