MILLTHORPE
A small village grew up at a crossing point on the roads from Blayney to Orange (Blackman's Swamp) and from Flyer's Creek to Bathurst. It became known as Spring Grove. By 1867 a school was educating settlers' children. The arrival of the Great Western Railway in 1877 was the catalyst for further development and investment. The Great Western Milling Company was formed in 1882, and a mill constructed in 1884. This instigated a change of name for the settlement. A meeting of local citizens in that year voted to adopt the name of Millthorpe for their village. Millthorpe also had a butter factory and was a key centre for the production of potatoes.
